Deakin Distinguished Professor Jo Salmon is Director of the Institute for Physical Activity and
Nutrition, Deakin University and holds a NHMRC Level 3 Investigator Grant. She has >25 years
research experience focused on ways to support children and adolescents to sit less and move
more. Jo developed TransformUs 16 years ago, which is a whole school program that has been
shown to reduce children's sedentary behaviour, increase physical activity and benefit health and
class engagement. With more than $40 million in research funds and over 500 peer review
publications, Jo was recently ranked number 22 in the research.com 2025 Best Female Scientists
Ranking in Australia.
