As Chair of the Health Promoting Schools Committee, Melisa leads ACHPER’s engagement in health education. Drawing on her research, she understands educators’ challenges and aims to develop practical strategies that support effective health-promoting practices without increasing teacher workload
Melisa maintains an active lifestyle through regular gym workouts, hiking, tennis and more recently pickleball. She encourages her students, peers and family to engage in physical activity with a ‘give it a go’ mentality. A passionate supporter of women’s sport, Melisa follows tennis and women’s soccer closely, especially as a proud Chelsea FC Women fan.
Melisa is a Health and Physical Education (HPE) academic and the Academic Integrity Lead at the University of Southern Queensland. Her research explores the health-related work undertaken by teachers, including formal curriculum work, the implementation of mandated health-related policies and both implicit and explicit health-related work that support student health and wellbeing. She teaches the health and physical education curriculum in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with a strong focus on preparing pre-service generalist teachers to deliver effective and engaging health education in schools. With previous experiences teaching HPE in Australia and abroad, Melisa brings practical insight and a global perspective to her academic work.

Dr lisahunter, from Monash University, brings four decades of ACHPER involvement spanning teaching, leadership and research. Their work champions equity, diversity and ecosocial justice in HPE, strengthening research partnerships, First Peoples-led initiatives, and collaboration across education and community sectors.
Hugh is a Senior Lecturer in Health and Physical Education at Queensland University of Technology, with extensive experience in teacher education, curriculum development, assessment moderation and school leadership. An ACHPER Fellow, he serves on state and national committees advancing health and physical education.
Dr Joe Scott is a Senior Lecturer in Health and Physical Education at University of the Sunshine Coast. His research focuses on designing and implementing innovative school and community strategies that empower young people to lead healthy, active lifestyles and reduce chronic disease risk.
As CEO of Foodcore, Megan drives initiatives that leverage the power of nutrition to improve wellbeing, strengthen communities, and create healthier food environments. She is committed to increasing access to nutritious food and building the skills and confidence to prepare it for group both big and small, as well as families.
Sally’s day to day is to reduce the incidence of skin cancer in Australia, working in the pillars of education, advocacy and research.
